dog sledding without snow

Traveling through the high country this summer to write my travel blog (Oregon to Florida), I discovered a wonderful camp experience, USA National Forest Sno-Parks. These parks are used in winter as staging areas for winter sports, but are ignored in the summer months. These Sno-Parks make a great summer retreat.

As the use of a bond of Sno-Park in the summer it's FREE. In winter, a parking permit is required to use the parks. This minimum rate is used to pay for snow removal and other expenses. Camping in summer has its price, the services are minimal. As rule "Pack It In – Pack It Out" is the standard for most Sno-Parks.

Facilities and activities vary from park to park and most are suitable for family camping. Sno Indeed many of the parks have large warming hut with wood stove, tables and chairs and some have facilities for UPS wiring for portable generators. These fully equipped large parks are ideal for group gatherings and parties. You can book cabins heating.

Sno-Parks are maintained by the USFS and well maintained and clean. Services vary by district rangers. Contact with the district ranger station for more information before leaving home. Some parks are areas of winter break and not suitable for family camping. All parks have toilet facilities.

Sno-parks were designed and located for enthusiasts of winter sports. Snowmobile riders are users and snowmobile trails are plentiful predominate. Cross-country skiing and sled dog trails can be found in some areas. Most parks offer maps of these trails can be hiked in the summer months. Contact the ranger station for district map information.

In general, the activities summer are minimal, with hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, all terrain is the primary activity. As all these activities are not allowed in all areas, consult with the district ranger station before leaving home. Water sports are rare and usually require travel. Remember that these are not places to camp high usage, which is underused Sno-Park free summer camping opportunities.
