At dusk, Saturdays, visitors and residents gather at the kiosk at the center of town to sing "Silent Night" and witness the lighting. The city is transformed into a holiday paradise. Visitors must arrive by least several hours before dusk on Saturday to allow time to find parking and participate in the festivities. Amtrak recently started train service to Leavenworth on its route between Seattle and Chicago, which may be a good option to see the Festival, especially in light of the sometimes dangerous winter driving conditions in the mountains.
