I recently read an article about how people spend more time planning their vacations than they do planning their lives. I am sure this is probably true for many. And while, I encourage you to spend some time planning your life, we also encourage the investigation of Alaska before ending his cruise plans. This way you can plan your time and schedule to take advantage of all that Alaska has to offer for you.

Here are my favorite tips 7:

1. Gather ideas on what you see and do in Alaska

Before making plans, read about Alaska and the investigation of the most important things you want to see and do. This is critical, and will make planning the rest of your trip much easier. Alaska is so vast and full of opportunities is very important to familiarize yourself with the possibilities and then narrow down – before you go!

2. Decide on the ports of call that are most important to you

The typical ports where the cruise ship docks are Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. However, these three stops are not always available only leaves. Other ports included Prince Rupert Hoonah (Icy Straits), Sitka, Wrangell, Haines, Valdez, Seward and Whittier. Each port has its own heritage, charm and shore excursions. A Once you have a clear idea of which cities you want in your itinerary, then the narrowing of the right cruise becomes a clear choice.

3. Check for the amount of time in each port will

You will be surprised how many times people want to program a particular visit to a port in particular only to be disappointed that there is not enough time for the trip they wanted ~ or not enough time for both trips they had established in their hearts. It is essential to know the times of your cruise ship will be in port. Allows not only the hours in the port as possible, but try to arrive between the hours of the morning and not in the afternoon. When you arrive in the morning you have more options throughout the day to schedule independent shore excursions and time for sightseeing and shopping. Check the cruise line and the departure time. A place where you can get this information is the Northwest Cruise Ship Association

4. Book your shore excursions in advance

Used to be that you can book tours on arrival in port. After 9 / 11 the rules are more strict with Tour operators that can be sold at the port. Many do not allow it at all. My answer is always – book in advance – what is done before going. Many of the most popular excursions are booked in advance. These are, as flightseeing, helicopter rides, dog sledding, rafting, kayaking, observation whale fishing. Although there may be exceptions, you really do not want to spend their precious time in port around trying to find a tour. Neither wants to be disappointed when can not be obtained for one that you wanted. By planning ahead is not in a hurry, you know what you're doing and in the long run, you have more time for vacations.

5. More information about the history of Alaska

We can read all about Alaska. It is the story is captivating. Each village has its own heritage and history. The more you learn, the more fascinated you become.

6. Know the best time of year to visit

My biggest questions about the best time of year to visit Alaska. The answer to this is totally subjective and depends on your priorities. If it is wildlife you want to see, then make sure know the optimal time for visualization of the species you are seeking. If you want the best time – then probably not the risk of a trip in late August or September. What happens to the best fishing – Well, what do you take and where will you be? You see, there are many reasons for choosing certain months. The best time to reach Alaska, is when you and your family can take time off from work and see this majestic state.

7. Ask questions!

It is very important to ask questions people who know about Alaska and the ports to be visited. The important thing to remember is that the views of others are very subjective. Tour The dream of a person could be the nightmare of another. I talked to 2 families that have done exactly the same tour at the same time, and one thought it was the best trip in Alaska and one complained because it was not what they expected. Be sure to ask the right questions and ask someone who can give direct answers.
